Hi, I’m Tim Gillespie and I set up Urchin Percussion in 2014 after five or six years of playing various cajons in acoustic bands, at jam nights and in recording sessions.
I wanted to create playable, professional and innovative, fully hand-made cajons from high quality materials at a reasonable price.
With my Urchin Cajons I believe I’ve achieved that goal, and I look forward to developing more innovations over the coming months and years.
In 2015, following discussions with a number of solo artists, I started to develop Urchin SwampBoxes – my line of foot-stompers. As with the cajons, I feel I’ve added some interesting design innovations with pickups and electronics.
Everything is made and finished by hand in my workshop here in Lincolnshire, UK.
For me, it’s all about the sound and playability of the instrument combined with roadworthy build quality from the best materials, and great stage looks. All my design decisions are based on these factors. I aim to keep prices keen and support high and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
